The Department of English offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes with syllabus ranging from British Literature, Indian Literature, American Literature, Literary Criticism and Theory, European and Non- European Literatures, Phonetics and Linguistics, Cultural Studies, English Language Teaching to the latest trends and developments in the discipline of Literature. Thus, the department instills in students a new zeal and a new vision of life to make them better citizens.

Courses

BA English Literature

Started in 2006 B.A. is a three year degree programme that aims to instill in students the skills of  appreciation of English language, its connotations and interpret and appreciate the didactic purpose in literature. An introduction to the treasures of English literature assists Students in the development of intellectual flexibility, creativity and cultural literacy to engage in life-long learning as well as acquire basic skills to pursue translation as research and career. The course is expected not only to enlighten but to encourage latent abilities of the students.

MA English Literature - The Masters programme in English Literature was introduced in the year 2015. The Masters programme is a two year course aimed with the objective of familiarizing students to a wide gamut English literature across the world. The Department strives to provide students the opportunities to be creative, reflective and dynamic in order to expose them  to a learning environment that supports growth as individuals and professionals. The programme is designed to  Engage students in high-level study of literature and cultivate their abilities in advanced interpretation, innovation, and writing.

The programme offers an advanced course of study in British Literature, American literature, Indian Writing in English along New Literatures in English, Postcolonial Literature, Indian Literatures in Translation, World Literature and Literary Theory and Criticism. The students are also acquainted with different theoretical and practical aspects and components of linguistics and stylistics. The programme also Introduces  the learners to a wide range of film nuances and theatrical practices around the world as well as helps them to Develop an understanding of various performing arts as tools of cultural intervention.

हिन्दी विभाग इस महाविद्यालय के प्राचीन तथा अत्यन्त महत्वपूर्ण विभागों में से एक है । संख्या की दृष्टि से भी यह महाविद्यालय का सबसे बड़ा विभाग है, सन् 1981 में राजकीय महिला स्नातकोत्तर महाविद्यालय गाजीपुर की स्थापना के पश्चात जब शिक्षण - कार्य आरम्भ हुआ तो इस क्षेत्र की मुख्य भाषा हिन्दी के अध्यापन की आवश्यकता को अनुभव किया गया, फलत: सन् 1977 से ही हिन्दी के अध्ययन की व्यवस्था की गई। सन 2005 से स्नातकोत्तर कक्षाएं आरम्भ हुईं।

 इस विभाग में आदिकाल, भक्तिकाव्य, रीतिकाल, आधुनिक काव्य, काव्यशास्त्र, प्रयोजनमूलक हिन्दी तथा भाषा विज्ञान के विशेषज्ञ अध्यापक के रूप में क्रमशः डॉ. श्री प्रकाश शुक्ल,(कवि एवं आलोचक ,वर्तमान में बी एच यू में प्रोफेसर ) डॉ. अजय मिश्र (प्राचार्य पद से सेवा निवृति ) डॉ. राम प्रकाश कुशवाहा (प्राचार्य पद से सेवा निवृति ) , डॉ. संगीता मौर्य (विभाग प्रभारी) डॉ. निरंजन कुमार यादव तथा डॉ. शशिकला जायसवाल की नियुक्ति हो चुकी है। सन् 2004 से स्नाकोत्तर पाठ्यक्रम में लोक साहित्य को एक प्रश्नपत्र के रूप में स्थान दिया गया ।

सन 2017 में विभाग द्वारा पी एच. डी. शुरू  हुआ और पुरानी हिन्दी (आदिकाव्य), देशान्तरी तथा हिन्दीतर राज्यों का हिन्दी साहित्य और शोध प्रविधि का विधिवत अध्ययन प्रारंभ किया गया। डॉ. संगीता मौर्य एवं निरंजन कुमार यादव ने लघु शोध प्रबन्ध के विषयों को अल्पख्यात रचनाकारों तथा जनपदीय साहित्य से जोड़ा है।

विगत वर्षो में विभाग द्वारा कई राष्ट्रीय एवं अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सेमिनार, कार्यशाला, काव्यगोष्ठी एवं नाट्यकृतियों  के आयोजन किये गये। डॉ. निरंजन कुमार यादव द्वारा ‘एक पुस्तक एक विचार श्रृंखला के तहत शनिवासरीय व्याख्यानमाला संचालित हुई। डॉ. संगीता मौर्य द्वारा विभागीय पुस्तकालय को सावित्रीबाई फुले  को समर्पित करते हुए उसे समृद्धि किया गया।

विभाग के कई छात्र राज्य एवं देश के महत्वपूर्ण पदों पर प्रतिष्ठित हुए जिनमें डॉ. शिखा तिवारी (प्रोफेसर डी सी एस के , मऊ) डॉ. किरन यादव(जी आई सी ,टी जी टी ) , श्री रमेश कुमार (पी जी टी ), श्री नागेन्द्र कुमार (जी आई सी, टी जी टी ), श्री अरुण प्रताप यादव(असिस्टेंट प्रोफेसर जी डी सी, अम्बारी, आजमगढ़) , डॉ. जय प्रकाश भारती (पी जी टी ), एवं कल्पना यादव (टी जी टी एवं पी.जी.टी. ) आदि उल्लेखनीय है।

इस बीच विभाग ने लगभग 06 नए ग्रन्थों का प्रकाशन किया। विभाग से भित्ति पत्रिका  ‘सर्जना’ का प्रकाशन किया गया और इसके 10 से ज्यादा अंक प्रकाशित हुए। वर्तमान में विभाग का ध्येय है कि हिन्दी के ख्यातिलब्ध साहित्यकारों की जयंतियों पर अनेक राष्ट्रीय-अन्तर्राष्ट्रीय स्तर के कार्यक्रमों का आयोजन कराना और हिन्दी विभाग को वैश्विक पटल पर स्थापित करना। विभागीय शोधार्थियों के लिए एक स्वतंत्र अध्ययन कक्ष की स्थापना भी उनकी कार्य योजनाओं के अन्तर्गत सम्मिलित है।

हिन्दी विभाग, राजकीय महिला स्नातकोत्तर महाविद्यालय गाजीपुर के अंतर्गत स्नातक स्तर पर हिन्दी साहित्य, सिनेमा, अनुवाद एवं प्रयोजनमूलक पाठ्यक्रम संचालित किये जाते हैं। इसके माध्यम से हिन्दी भाषा एवं साहित्य के संवर्द्धन के साथ-साथ जहाँ एक ओर हिन्दी साहित्य का पाठ्यक्रम संचालित होता है वहीं छात्रों को व्यावहारिक एवं कार्यालयी हिन्दी के प्रति जागरूक करने एवं रोजगार की संभावनाओं को देखते हुये प्रयोजनमूलक हिन्दी का पाठ्यक्रम संचालित किया जाता है। इसके अन्तर्गत छात्रों को राजभाषा प्रशिक्षण के साथ-साथ कार्यालयी पत्राचार, मीडिया, कम्प्यूटर आशुलेखन एवं अनुवाद का प्रशिक्षण दिया जाता है।

   हिन्दी में स्नातकोत्तर सिर्फ छात्राओं  के लिए सुगम हिन्दी दक्षता पाठ्यक्रम, लघुशोध एवं पीएच.डी पाठ्यक्रम संचालित किये जाते हैं। इन पाठ्यक्रमों का निर्माण राष्ट्रीय एवं मानवीय मूल्यों की सहभागिता सुनिश्चित करने के सापेक्ष तैयार किया गया है।

संस्कृत विभाग विद्यार्थियों के भविष्य को ध्यान में रखते हुए निरंतर क्रियाशील रहता है। विभागाध्यक्ष एक समर्पित एवं वरिष्ठ शिक्षाविद है ,जो विद्यार्थियों के मार्गदर्शन के लिए निरंतर उपलब्ध  रहते हैं ।वे अकादमिक प्रगति के लिए शोध निर्देशन व भविष्योन्मुखी योजनाओं में निरंतर लगे रहते हैं, जिसमें कैरियर काउंसलिंग से लेकर शोध निर्देशन, व्यक्तित्व निर्माण तक विद्यार्थियों के लिए प्रयास करते हैं।

किसी भी भाषा के साहित्य के अध्ययन का प्रधान उद्देश्य ज्ञान परंपरा की गहराइयों में उतरना ,अतीत को वर्तमान से जोड़ना, अपनी सभ्यता व संस्कृति को उन्नत करना, लोकमंगल की भावना आदि होता है। संस्कृत में स्नातक पाठ्यक्रम की संरचना और उसका स्वरूप इसी विशेषता को लेकर बनाया गया है ।इसके साथ ही यह विद्यार्थियों की आजीविका के लिए उपयोगी पहलुओं एवं कौशल विकास की दृष्टि से भी महत्वपूर्ण है। वैदिक ज्ञान- विज्ञान ,प्राचीन भारतीय संस्कृति ,भाषा विज्ञान ,भाषा शिक्षण ,अनुवाद   आदि के विविध आयामों के अध्ययन के माध्यम से विद्यार्थी अपनी योग्यता से विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में अपना भविष्य बना सकते हैं ।यह पाठ्यक्रम वर्तमान परिस्थितियों को संयुक्त  करता हुआ विद्यार्थियों को वैदिक काल से लेकर अद्यतन फैले हुए संस्कृत लेखन से परिचित कराता है ।संस्कृत में स्नातक करने के बाद विद्यार्थी बी एड ,बी टी सी ,प्रशासनिक सेवा, वास्तुशास्त्र, योग, कर्मकांड,पौरहित्य, ज्योतिष ,अनुवादक , भाषा विज्ञान ,उच्च शिक्षा ,पुरातत्व आदि के क्षेत्र में अध्ययन कर आजीविका  के रूप में देश -विदेश में अपार संभावनाएं है।

About

The Department of Urdu offers Undergraduate programmes with following outcomes :

1. To develop writing skills in Urdu language and passion for peer study among students
   Correct pronunciation, correct spelling and awareness of lip and accent
2. To make them aware of Urdu culture, morals and values ​​as well as Indian common culture, to shape their character and to make them mentally organized according to the times and requirements, to make them profitable and useful for the country and the human community.
